People evolve, which leads to change. I don’t think it works the other way around, and I think thats why we have the girls who believe that “people change” and the girls who believe that “people never change” and they both seem right. The “people change” group is confusing evolving for changing, and the “people never change” group sort of gets it, but by accident. In my typical fashion, pun intended, this thought, understanding, realization, (etc) of which group I belong to (none) came to me while I was looking in the mirror after getting dressed. It’s hot, and I’m not wearing a lot:
Kye Intimates bralette
Hanes WB
Calvin Klein nude thong
Tekla poplin sleep shorts
This is a typical outfit for me. I’ve been living in these tank tops since like, the sixth grade, I think I’ve circled through at least 100 of them in my life, maybe more if we count the alternate sizes and colours I’ve experimented with. I’m not proud of it, but they are the closest thing to disposable clothing. The bra is new, and very comfortable, almost weightless. I bought it last week at Bomi. I’ve had these shorts for about 4 years and they’ve taken on a whole new personality this summer. I bought them big for an oversized look, still good, more on trend now than when I bought them, and I have always worn them on my true waist. Which is what you would probably call high waisted. This year, I’m wearing them at my high hip. Which is actually, what you would probably call low rise. They look fucking cool. They’re longer and just, better. They don’t highlight the smallest part of my body anymore (I hate that we care about this) but instead they make me look (with intention) more relaxed, and less like a diaper wearing influencer. Sorry. The evolution of a pair of shorts. The evolution of a woman and her body!
Summer is, officially here. The rain in New York City has finally stopped and I have my first real tan lines of the year. It’s been a busy three weeks.
Highlights
Lucas settled in: it feels like we’ve always lived together. I miss him when he’s in the other room.
Our new table arrived: on the last day of the month, just in time to make it into this June recap. It took a lot for me to get this table, including a fraudulent antique dealer and exorbitantly priced and very delayed shipping from Live Auctioneers. Whatever, she’s mine now, and she’s got beautiful barley twist legs.
I bought these sunglasses: the tortoise is soft and the purple is a little off, they’re very good.

I saw this show and had honey/blueberry/lavender ice cream: both in the same hour, both just what I needed.
S&P pancakes in bed: Lucas famously worked there when we started dating. The first time I went in to visit him at work the entire staff whistled and yelled. He leaned over the counter and kissed me. He made me a tuna melt that day; today he makes me pancakes and brings them to me in bed. How lucky is too lucky?
Brooklyn Cyclones: we went to go see the Cyclones play on the perfect summer night. It was a Wednesday. It was quiet. It was breezy. We had hot dogs and soft serve.
Our housewarming sandwich party: we had a make your own sandwich party to warm our home. We had cheese and meat from Caputo’s. We had bread from ACQ. We had veggies and condiments and homemade pestos, compound butters and dips. It was so lovely, so warm, so happy, so yummy. I feel like it deserves it’s own newsletter but this will do for now.

A big ice cream sundae after getting caught in the rain: at Bernie’s. It’s still worth the wait. Then we went to our sweet friend Liz’s show. She rules.
Solstice on the roof: where I got my first tan lines. We had pizza.
Defonte’s Sandwich shop: as good as it looks. We didn’t have to wait in line, you probably will but it’s worth it! We ate at the counter inside and ogled at the Sopranos cast clad wall of visitors.
Intro to Archery: I said I wanted to do archery, so Lucas took me to do archery. It was extremely fun and I plan on going back. I think I can turn it into a real hobby. It’s actually really relaxing, and I like having to concentrate on something other than a screen. I also really liked wearing the quiver on my hip. A little chic a lot cosplay.
Cinnamon buns: another treat in bed. I repeat… how lucky is too lucky (!!!!!). Do you say cinnamon bun or cinnamon roll?
We became Costco members: and celebrated our 1 month cohabitation anniversary with pizza and a chicken bake. Life is seriously all about balance.
Lowlights
A broken mask I bought in Mexico: it fell as we were hanging it up, split right down the middle. It’s been glued back together. The only hiccup during the move. Unpleasant and sad, but small. It’s just a thing!
The heat wave: except actually it wasn’t so bad. Our apartment has a hard time cooling down, so Lucas filled up a big bowl of ice and water for me to soak my feet in. He dried each foot as I alternated dipping one at a time. I know, don’t puke all at once. We sat in the dark and made up a Broadway musical. Stay tuned (pun intended again, I’m on a roll) for “I Don’t Want To Work Here Anymore”, coming to a theater near you… soon.
Last July I wrote about the smell of summer. This year, it smells a little different. It smells like cut grass and gasoline. I tend to like stark contrast in my life and I like them at the same time. The cut grass is a craving, and a part of my evolution. My growing desire to be close to nature. To (…literally) touch grass! We could all use an afternoon of grounding. The dream of moving upstate feels less like a dream and more like a possible future. Key word possible. Ditmas Park with a big yard is looking almost perfect right now. We’re actually thinking about getting a car. The city in me isn’t going away, I just like a weekend away.
The taste of summer is something else. To me, right now, it tastes like the sugar coating on an Advil tablet and cinnamon.
I bought this an Edwardian nightgown on Etsy. The armholes are a little high, so I’m bringing it to the tailor this week to have ‘em scooped out and rebound. There is a fix for everything, I promise.
